Writing instruction will be part of the daily schedule in Mrs. Hasler's room. The teaching format will be mini-lessons where the teaching point is introduced to students, followed by students "giving it a go" by trying the strategy out with support, and then independently. Our classroom of authors will be studying and writing several different types of writing such as narratives, expository pieces, opinion pieces, historical fiction, and literary essays. While learning the different structures of these genres, writers will be encouraged to raise the quality of their writing by developing their ideas with details, using stronger word choices, organizing their ideas, and considering their sentence fluency. This will all be done in a warm, supportive atmosphere where students can feel comfortable enough to take risks with their writing and build their confidence level.
